CIPLA is pleased to announce its first meeting of in the 2017-2018 schedule, which will take place on September 26, 2017 at the Elm City Club, formerly the Graduate Club, located at 155 Elm Street, New Haven. The reception will begin at 6 pm and dinner at 7 pm.
We will be joined by Professor John Thomas of Quinnipiac University. Professor Thomas will speak on “The intellectual property implications of Kalamazoo Gals: A Story of the Extraordinary Women and Gibson’s “Banner” Guitars of WWII (American History Press, 2013).” Kalamazoo Gals is a book Professor Thomas wrote about women who built guitars during WWII. The company for which they worked covered up the story during that time and refuses to talk about the topic to this day. The BBC produced and hour-long documentary on his book, NPR, NBC, Voice of America, etc. also featured stories on the book, and a young playwright recently won a Kennedy Center award for a play based on the book.
We hope to see all of our members and their guests for what will be a night filled with music, history, and discussions about their relation to intellectual property law!
